Winthrop University? South Carolina?

Has anyone here ever heard of this university?
It isn't the hardest to get into (3.5 GPA, near 1100 SAT/24 ACT), but it seems to have a good reputation here (in SC).

Just wondering what people think...

I'm not competitive enough or financially able to afford/get into Furman or Wofford.
Been thinking about College of Charleston, too. Or even University of South Carolina..

Thanks!

Winthrop, SC and CofC are all good choices. Winthrop used to be a females only teachers college. I think there are still more women there than guys. Its in Rock Hill and close to Charlotte.
CofC has a smaller feel to it and its in Charleston, cant beat that.
If you want big-time, big college experience, SC is the place. SC is in the SEC so sports will be very big. Facilities are outstanding and the Greek village is one of the best I’ve seen.

You should also consider your major and each schools rep

good luck, I dont think you can go wrong with any of these choices

Thanks so much for your input.

I’ll be majoring in Mass Communications/Journalism, and all three schools are pretty good in that area, I believe.

Just gotta work on my standardized test scores a bit to solidify my chances at CofC.
Thanks again!!

We really liked South Carolina when we visited. The campus is very nice too. Best of luck!

thank you :)

Angel, if you are going to major in Mass Communication/ Journalism, I would recommed that you look real hard at USC - Columbia. My daughter was initially in this major and we specifically selected USC due to her major. I was very impressed with their Mass Comm/ Journalism department. Also, graduating seniors who get a job right out of school is virtually 100%.

Here is a review of Winthrop from 2006, so it is 5 years old:
