wireless at CMU

i'm going to visit CMU soon.
is there a password of some sort that i need to use CMU wireless internet?
if not.. that kinda stinks because i don't have one :(

You have to be a CMU student in order to use our wireless. We are very careful about strangers "leeching" off our precious connections :)

However if you just wanted internet access you can use the computers anywhere on campus (including in the library or in the halls). You can also just ask a student to show him/her the wireless capablities or ask about them from the tour guide/etc.

You can't get on the wireless without registering your computer, which requires having an AndrewID and password (AndrewIDs are what we call usernames around here). But like AA said, there are public computer labs around campus (they're called "clusters").

BTW, if you're bored in Pittsburgh's airport, get on the wireless there - it's free and open to anyone.

You need an andrew ID to log into pretty much any computer on campus. What you should do is find any old cmu student and ask him or her to add your computer as a machine on his or her account. It doesn't pose any risk to the person logging in because machines that abuse the network are kicked off individually.
