Is there wireless internet connection in the freshman dorms?

When I lived there two years ago, only in the common rooms. If you live close to one, then you might get it, if not, then probably no. The exception was Epworth, I think they had 802.11N throughout the entire dorm.

You could always just buy a router for your room. Some of those 802.11G ones go for really cheap, especially during rebate where you can get them for less than $10.

Depending on where you live in the dorm too. I lived on 3rd floor Randolph right above the commons and had decent reception from 1st floor. Someone is usually nice enough to set up a router to encompass a portion of the dorm. Will you be that person?

Its actually changing. Starting in August not only is Duke upgrading all of its wireless access points to the new 802.11n technology, it is also adding points throughout the dorms. So there will be wireless in all the freshmen dorms when you get there. (hurray!)

Oh and you don't have to have an "n" card to access the wireless. It'll still be backwards compatible. (you'll just get the fastest connection with an "n" enabled card)
