I will be staying on campus overnight during the June 4-5 orientation, and I was wondering if wireless internet is available in the dorm rooms.

I have done some research and it seems as if wireless is not covered in the rooms.
Can anyone with personal experience clarify this for me?

I guess it depends where you’ll be staying. This link shows where wireless is offered on the campus.

If wireless is provided in the area where you will be staying, this link will show you how to set it up.

Fortunately dorms come with an Ethernet cord. You just plug that into your computer, and you’ll have internet.

Are you positive that the dorms will already have an ethernet cable? Or do I have to bring my own?

This was taken from the housing website

Will I have access to an internet connection?
Yes, all UCF residence halls and apartments have internet connections available to students. Students may not set-up their own wireless routers in their rooms. Wireless access is available in some housing outside areas and lounges. Wireless access is not available in rooms.

so yes, you will have an internet connection available

I knew that you could plug in your computer, but you said that ethernet cables are already there.
The FAQ does not say that directly. Do you have experience with the cable being there?

No I do not have any experience with it, because im also an incoming freshmam. However I found this website that tells you what you need to access the internet in your dorm.

It says If you want to surf the Web from your dorm, you need access to ResNet. Its
UCFs FREE high-speed internet service, providing connectivity via network
jacks located in each dorm room. ResNet is only available to students living in
on-campus housing.

What equipment do I need to connect?
A personal computer with a network card installed & ResNet Security CD
run (or all current updates to your operating system installed.)
An Ethernet (network) cable

Thanks. That is what I was looking for. I didn’t think an ethernet cable would be in the room.

You need to bring an Ethernet cable!!
