Wireless internet

do we have to download something from the resnet website for wireless connection at bu? if we do, do we do it at school or should we do it before we leave for school?

Yes, you download what is called the VPN Client, which you can get from the BU PCSC web-site. It is here: http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/wireless/

Follow those instructions precisely, and everything should work perfectly. It saves time if you do it at home before you arrive, but it's up to you. I'm sure you already knew, but wireless is limited to a few places on campus including but not limited to some of the dining halls and the Mugar library.

How do kids get wireless connections in their dorms? or do they at all? Basically, if there isn't wireless in dorm rooms, how can we get an internet connection?

There is an internet connection for each roommate in each dorm room. This is part of what your Resnet fee pays for.

in the dorm, you'll need an ethernet cord to connect to the internet.

sometime over the next few weeks, BU will send an email out with stuff you'll need to do with your computer before moving in (ie throw away windows, uninstall anything made by bill gates, etc etc..)

juuust kidding lol. you'll need to download a free copy of macafee, then run a virus check, then run it again when u get to BU. and i've heard the process is a lot simpler if u have a mac.

For those of you thinking about making your own wireless connection by bringing your own router, BU forbids students to do this. It messes up the network and causes security breaches.
