wireless internet

is there wireless internet availabe OUTSIDE around "campus" made available through NYU?

not really familiar with the city and how stuff like that works

WSP is wireless. if you're lucky, you can sometimes get it in the dorm in your room. most dining halls are wireless too.

There are so many different unprotected wirless networks b/c of so many residential buildings around. You'll most probably have it. But I don't see a point in using it. Starbucks has NYU internet. I dont forsee you going out anywhere else with your laptop

was wondering because i have 1hour breaks in between certain classes and the dorms i signed up for are all at least 20min away from WSP so i was wondering if i could bring my laptop and do some work for a bit in between classes (when the weather permits of course)

Are you an incoming freshman? There are no dorms 20 min away. U-hall and 3N are like 15 tops. If you want to do work between classes you'll either go to the stern building, Kimmell's upper floors, starbucks, or any other building. As it does get cold in the winter. And I don't really forsee you bringing a laptop to any of your classes. and if you do, you wont get much done in the hour and a half. you'll end up hanging out with friends at wienstein.

oh how i wish i was an incoming freshman haha

i'm a transfer - water street/lafayette all those really far away dorm choices =(

i was thinking about taking a laptop not to use in class but to use in between classes...i might not even do that, it was just a thought =)

If you want to use a laptop between classes, the most you'll do is check email and stuff. You can do that with all of the computers NYU has sitting around for that, on second floor of kimmell for instance.

kind of off-topic..but when do transfers find out housing assignments?

august or something like that...way too late in my opinion

that is way too late..

I'd say bring your laptop. The computers on the second floor of Kimmel are stand only, but there is plenty of lounge space to relax with your own comp. Or you could just go to bobst library and use the computers on the lower levels. I also want to say that they are putting wireless in WSP? I know they have it in union square but I think they are going to make it available in all city parks soon.
