I understand that they're not allowed in the residence halls. Do some students use them anyway?

Spoof router MAC address as computer, disable SSID broadcast and use a VPN - would this work?

I think they do. I pick up on way more wireless networks than I ought to in my dorm. I just found there was no need. My dorm was ten feet across, an ethernet cable was not that cumbersome and the internet worked better that way.

Wow, some students don’t even disable broadcasting and no one gives them trouble? You make a valid point about room size. However, I believe I may still give my network a try and if it doesn’t work out, cut my losses and move on.

Do you know if the network admins monitor bandwidth?

Thanks,
