Wireless Routers

I currently live in Hinton James, which does not have wireless coverage in the rooms. I know I'm technically allowed to have a router in my room, but if I do, will they try to find it? The ITS web site says that routers aren't allowed because they 'disrupt the wireless network,' but seeing as how there is no wireless in the room, I don't see how this point is valid. Will they catch me?

Thanks in advance.

What's wrong with the ethernet cables that either come with cci laptops or you can buy for nine bucks in the student store?

Funny you should ask this - my friend set up a network in her hojo dorm room last year. Nobody cares. It's kind of funny, too, for some reason. I think there are some secret ones in Kenan but I'm not sure.

One of my suitemates used one in Ehaus last year, I don't think it's a big deal.

Go for it dude. Highly unlikely that they'll ever know, and even if they do, the worst that will happen is they will tell you to stop using it.

I have one set up in my room and nobody cares. Just make the SSID something that is not personally identifiable and you will be fine. Nobody is going to go around with a wifi-detector and zero in on the signal.
