Wireless?

How much of Penn’s campus is wireless?

A lot of the campus is wireless...and as of next fall, all of the College Houses will have wireless internet access.

oh ok, awesome. so whats the best thing to do in the dorm for this year?

I lived in one of the high rises, where the wireless was good in some places but not in others, but they give everyone an ethernet cable and it's super fast...so if you're in your room, that might actually be faster than the wireless.

In places like the roof top lounges I used the wireless, which was still really fast...So i would use the cable in your room and use the wireless elsewhere.

actually, most ethernet connections in the college houses are 10 mbps, whereas i think they're bringing 802.11g connections for wireless, which are 54 mbps (at best range and speed)...

but regardless, the internet will be everywhere! can't stop it! nooo

tenebrousfire: most connections to the college houses are on 10/100 mpbs lines which are faster than the current speeds most wireless connections offer.

well, 10 mbps is slower than 11 (802.11b) or 54 (802.11g); my old hill room's connection was 10 mbps so i often grabbed wireless from across the street (54 mbps from engineering buildings)...

i've not heard of 100 mbps connections in the college houses (maybe in renovated buildings) but i know for sure that academic buildings (like logan hall) have 1 gbps connections (oh, how i want one)
