I was wondering if I could get the opinions of several people about engineering at UW-Madison, specifically ChemE. I have also been accepted to Case Western and RPI and I am waiting on Johns Hopkins and Cornell.

Any comments would be helpful

Near the top in ChemE. Other depts ranked in top 10-20, which as other posters have pointed out, will work fine. It is a very good academic school.

UW-Madison is remarkably reasonable for OOS(about $32K per year versus Cornell and JH near 50K, Case and RPI near 45K). It is also WAY MORE fun socially than any of the other schools you mentioned. Beautiful campus, great sports to follow(top ranked football, basketball, and hockey teams). Situated on an isthmus between four lakes. Madison is a great, great college town. About 1/4 OOS, lots of kids from the East Coast.

And if you are not a sports fan, there is tons of other stuff going on.... concerts, art, outdoor activities... the whole enchilada.

^^ Agreed. Wisconsin is great.

as a huge sports fan i think wisconsin is perfect for me. thanks guys

but it's cold as heck.

that is very true but im kinda used to it growing up in new england although ive heard its a whole different animal up in wisconsin

It was over 70 yesterday. Seriously the cold winters seem to be ebbing from the bad years in the 70's and 80's and are more like western Mass now. It is a real winter but sub zero days seem far fewer.
