Wisconsin Madison vs UCSB

Both applied and both accepted in sociology major. I really love the weather in CA but heard that social science is not the strongest major of UCSB. So anyone can give me some suggestions? Does UWM have a powerful social science major? I can only find the graduate rank in USNEWS....Any opinions welcome and much appreciated!!

My D was considering UCSB at one point, though she decided not to apply there. I think the social sciences are relatively strong there, and they are known for having some particularly good areas studies programs. For sociology itself, you would be hard pressed to find something better than Wisconsin.

UCSB is strong in social sciences, but looking at the US news rankings of sociology UW seems higher in their views (often UCSB is rated lower by USNews due to its more undergraduate focus, though, which can actually be a benefit if you are in fact an undergraduate.) Still, looking only at rankings in sociology alone, UW does seem to be ranked higher - except in sex and gender where UCSB is ranked #1 http://www.soc.ucsb.edu/news-events/item/ucsb-sociology-1-sex-and-gender

Best of luck wherever you end up!
