UW has more of an all around traditional college with sports and social activity focused on the students.

Hmm... isn't that you're the one who is going to college??!! :)

I had spent considerable time at Madison and Boston (technically Cambridge but close) so my personal vote goes to Madison. Winter-wise, they are about the same (cold). The Wisconsin definitely has a more lively college atmosphere. I always feel BU campus very spread out and honestly not much of a campus feeling. On the other hand, all the interesting places in Boston are one T ride away. So if you thrill in big city, BU is the way to go. Also BU alum network is stronger on the East Coast if that's where you intend to live later.

I transferred from Wisconsin to BU and dallas808 said it perfectly. If you like city life (the people who live in big cities are often very different from those who don't), choose BU. If you NEED a campus, definitely choose Madison.
