Wisconsin vs Ohio State economics

I have been accepted to both schools. Which school has the stronger undergrad economic program? Cost is not a factor. Any opinions would be appreciated!

According to this old post(http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/137062-best-undergraduate-economics-program.html</a>), Wisconsin, but I think OSU has improved in the last five years. This site has them ranked comparably: [Best Undergraduate Economics Programs in the Nation](Best Undergraduate Economics Programs in the Nation)

Over the last two years the Wisconsin Econ department has hired some real super stars. Always a top 15 program it is likely among the top 10 at this point.

Wisconsin is much better for Econ than Ohio State, but Wisconsin is not a top 10 Econ department. More like top 20.

Ohio State is decent at economics, but Wisconsin is a powerhouse and a legend. If you’re serious about research or academia, go to Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin is much better for Econ than Ohio State, but Wisconsin is not a top 10 Econ department. More like top 20.”

More like top 15, and that was before recent Dept improvements:

US News: 14

UW is gonna have better academics in most subjects. OSU is improving, but it’s still not on the same level as UW.

With recent senior hires from Penn, Michigan, Stanford, Texas, and PSU UW should be in the Top 10-15. Also they have their own placement office plus access to the excellent busienss placement office.

Not sure why it matters: Wisconsin is the better school which means better recruiters on campus and greater overall prestige. Its also a better lifestyle. Easy choice here.

JonnyQ78,

If you are OOS, I agree with the other posters re Wisconsin over OSU for economics, although I think the differences in the departments would show up more for grad school and plenty of OSU undergrads do fine going to top grad schools. If, however, you are in state Ohio and can get into the honors program there, I would choose OSU as the much less costly option with comparable quality to UW via honors.

I am instate wisconsin
If I were accepted to the ohio state honors program, should I choose ohio over wisconsin?

No, you can do honors at UW too you know.

Why would anyone from Wisconsin want to attend OOS tOSU unless it was way cheaper than U-W?

Well technically I am able to claim residency in Ohio as my dad lives there… so instate tuition for both schools

If COA is not an issue, I recommend Wisconsin over OSU by a margin. OSU has made big strides in recent years, but it still lags Wisconsin signficantly. Besides, Madison is a much nicer town than Columbus.

Thanks everyone for the replies!
I am definitely leaning towards madison now!

I don’t if it is still the case today, but back in my days, OSU was more expensive than Wisconsin. Another reson to choose Badgers!

Update!
I have just gotten accepted to miami university of ohio
Any thoughts comparing it to the other two schools?
Thanks

Third in three way race.

I’d have to agree. Did they offer you any $ to make a difference?
