wisdom of checking "no aid needed"?

We did not file FAFSA for any school since I knew we would not qualify. My son was offered merit aid at all schools. One school wanted us to fill in CSS profile stating that he might qualify for other scholarships.

I called CSS and they said if a school wants you to fill it in that means the money is connected to need so if I didn’t think we would qualify it was unnecessary. We did not and my son was offered the most merit aid from that school.

SlitheyTove: That’s not what I meant. I meant that schools meet their obligations to students who have already gotten financial aid (behaving well in your terms) before giving grants to students who haven’t received them before. This is the opposite of luring students on false pretenses.
