wisdom teeth removed... and now...

how long until the pain goes away and i can eat good food other than ice cream

amnesia,

my friend recently had his removed, and he was conked out for about a week. He was in pain and drowsy, but it passed. I think you'll be back to your old eating within a week, and the painkillers should have worn off by then.

Have a good recovery! (I still have mine, and I'm terrified to get them pulled)

hey i just had mine out friday... i'm just coming out of it today...
i hurt the most sunday and monday.

dude, it's not that bad.

ihavent taken any pain killers or anything. and i've been in it since i got them removed ... i was just wobbly for an hour. other than that, im fine.

dude, it's no biggy. get them removed.

wow amnesia. that is fortunate.
i wouldn't stop bleeding for like 2 days...

i have a pretty bad story. I have a tendency to heal oddly. anyway, before you heal up completely, there's a socket where your wisdom tooth was. mine was so deep and wide that part of my jaw bone was sticking out from the gum. Because of that, i would get a sharp pain whenever i moved my mouth. It took 2 weeks for the gum to heal over the bone. this rarely happens, which is why it just had to happen to me. other surgeries i've had, i've gone through complications that only happen to a significant minority of patients. it sucks.

mine were removed before they came in, so there is no hole.

in fact, i cant even brush my teeth let alone check for anything, but i dont think i will get an infection.

mine were removed before they came in, too...
but i have this little flap at the back of my mouth on both sides right now...

i hope thats normal... lol

when do wisdom teeth grow?
I don't think I have mine yet?
I got braces so the teeth right at the backs of my mouth have the metal ring around it. Are they the wisdom teeth?
Why do you have to take them out?
What happens if you don't take them out?

im not sure how it is in the other british countries, but in the US we remove them.

they tell us if we dont remove them, we will have pain. generally they come in at about 25 or so...

and they cram up your mouth and push the other teeth out of place

NoFX, My son's regular dentist ordered a panoramic x-ray. It showed where the wisdom teeth were and how they would grow in. Son's would not grow in straight, would interfer with teeth that had braces and so came out. The little info film they showed us explained that it was better to come out before the roots had a chance to grow into the nerves. I would recommend you ask your orthodontist about the wisdom teeth. Son's were removed at 16.

My mom did not believe is seeing a dentist unless you had pain. At 20 something in pharmacy school my wisdom teeth came in and I was in intense pain. They had to be removed immediately and could not be scheduled at a convenient time. I will never forget having to give a little talk to my class with two puffy bruised cheeks just a few days after my wisdom teeth were removed. Son experienced some discomfort but it was nice that it was scheduled at a time convenient to everyone.

LA

I got mine out on a Friday afternoon. For about 2 or 3 hours afterword, I was woozy and slightly high on painkillers so I was laughing as blood was coming out of my mouth. Then the pain set in, and my mom had to rush to get the pills from the pharmacy. For an hour or two it was pretty bad, but then it was all a matter of taking the pills regularly. But I had these intense pain pills that after a while made you throw up, so I had to switch to Advil. I was back at school on Tuesday, and eating regular food a few days after that.

Just don't spit out your spit or blood. It disturbs the stitches. If you do start throwing up from the pain pills, STOP TAKING THEM IMMEDIATELY. The stitches could open up again. Enjoy eating pudding. If you're on intense pain pills, watch trippy or hard-to-follow movies with friends. It's an experience. Oh have your friends' cameras confiscated at the door so pictures of you as a chipmunk don't exist. You don't want to remember that.

What are wisdom teeth? I think I knew kids with extra teeth when i was little, but i always thought they were freaks. I was terrified myself that i was going to grow extra teeth, and didn't, but never understood what they were. are wisdom teeth extra teeth? Can someone explicate it for me?

Wisdom teeth are four more molars that come in later than all your other teeth. Some people don't have any, some only have two, and some have all four. Beyond that I'm not sure, but they do recommend having them remove. They "aren't necessary," so dentists prefer removing them to filling them if you get cavities later. They also screw up the braces that every person of our generation has.

QuickLikeCat...

uh oh.. i spit a lot (i was bleeding like crazy!)... i bled like, forever... and they totally didnt tell me to not spit! AHHH
i have my check up on my stitches tomorrow...

and my stitches feel kinda funny...

wellll crap.

I had mine out on a Thursday morning, which luckily ended up to be a snow day, and I went to a formal dance on Friday night. I didn't go to school on Friday, but I had committed to the formal, it was for NHS. I didn't have any swelling, followed the instructions about icing. I never took the pain meds my dentist prescribed, I couldn't stand the idea of not being able to drive, I just took Advil instead. I was back at school on Monday. I didn't have many problems except for having to swallow my food whole for a couple of days once I was back on solids.

when do wisdom teeth grow? For most people, 13 or 12 they may start popping out a lil

I don't think I have mine yet? Some people may not even GET wisdom teeth. Its the beauty of EVOLUTION! :D In progress! 8-B

I got braces so the teeth right at the backs of my mouth have the metal ring around it. Are they the wisdom teeth? I don't know, but if the ring is around those teeth, you probably will not need to get them pulled. If you do, then you have an incomptent orthodonist!

Why do you have to take them out? You don't have to. A dentist my suggest it if you have pains in your mouth or if you get braces. For some people, it may cause severe problems with the mouth and jaw.

What happens if you don't take them out? Nothing happens unless you've been having pains or problems. Its not that big of a deal, but if you find out that you should have them pulled, it may be best as you don't really know if it will cause problems in the future or not.

stitches...inside...the...mouth...?

Well, crap. I'm getting mine removed tomorrow morning and I'm working on Sunday. Hopefully fingers crossed I'll be better by then, if not then I guess I have to call in sick. My summer classes start Monday morning, bright and early. Sigh.

Yeah, when we did x-rays on my jaw, my wisdom teeth were growing sideways... it looked like they were about to attack my other teeth!
