this is a weird question for CC, but I've seen stranger, lol.

Have any of you had your wisdom teeth removed? If so... how long did it take for the pain/discomfort to go away? Also, were you afraid to eat? The doctor told me to start eating normal foods after about 24 hours, but I'm afraid that I'm going to tear the sutures. Has anyone else had experience with this? THanks

The experience varies from person to person. For me, the 24 hours wait was enough to begin eating, but I did have issues eating rice - the grains kept getting stuck in the holes. I was a little sore for a day after surgery, but for the day of...I was numb for 12 hours - so no pain. Good luick with yours.

Also, not a weird question at all - I've seen numerous posts about this (mostly by parents out of concern for their kids).

I had mine out last June...all four were bony impactions

it took about a week for my jaw muscles to recover enough that I could open my mouth the entire way, and I pretty much was wi/out painkillers the whole way through bc the narcotics made me sick to my stomach and dizzy. The pain isn't really that bad, and I ate pizza for dinner the same day I had my teeth pulled, but it really depends on you...it's a different experience for each person, but just hope you don't end up wi/ infections (typical about six weeks after recovery); they hurt! :(

ouch! that's insane... i didn't know you could have 8 wisdom teeth!

well thanks for all the well-wishes. I looked up some of the other Wisdom Teeth threads that Sombodynew mentioned, and it was comforting to read that I'm not the only one who's still experiencing discomfort. It's only the 3rd day for me, but I was afraid that maybe something was wrong, because last week a friend of mine got his wisdom teeth out on a Thursday, and he was in school the very next day, went to the casino with me and a group of friends Friday night, and played in a few lacrosse games that weekend. Right now I feel really out of it (maybe its partly the painkillers though), so I wasn't sure if it was just me.

well once upon a time when our teeth used to rot out or break up inside our mouths from horrible diets and gnawing on bones, they were there for replacements, and they also used to fit when we humans had big ol' neanderthal jawbones, but no so anymore :D

3 baby teeth pulled prematurely because of BIG BAD adult teeth coming through. 4 permanent teeth removed for braces, then 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Thank God I'm done with that.

I think I can beat nearly everyone in the "number of teeth removed" department - 14. Yeah, ouch. None were wisdom teeth, thankfully, that would just suck; mine are still in, for now.

How old were you guys when you had yours removed?

I had all four of mine removed near the end of December 2005. I'm 18. It was a neat experience. I didn't experience any pain at all. Seriously. My oral surgeon gave me a Rx for amoxicillin (to stop infection) and a Rx for generic demerol (to stop any pain, but like I said, I didn't experience any). The sockets left from the extraction have healed almost completely.

I just found out this friday that my Wisdom teeth finally came in when I went to the dentist. All those years of braces and retainers paid off-they came in perfectly straight!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited!!!1
To the OP, almost everyone in my family had to get their wisdom teeth removed and they all said to me that it took them sometimes a week to recover.
