Hey guys! I just wanted to start a thread for everyone applying to the Weekend Immersion in Science and Engineering!
I highly doubt I’ll get in, but I went to something similar at Harvey Mudd, so I figured I might as well apply. The applications are due so early! I’m really hoping my guidance department gets their act together within the next week because they haven’t even released class rank yet… I’m also waiting for my June SAT scores which won’t be released until after the application deadline. I have old SAT scores but I think my new ones with be better.
Hello! I’m also applying for the WISE program and I’m glad that a thread has been started for discussions. @Fangirl1999 You said you doubt you’ll get in? Why is that? Is the program difficult to get into? Sorry if I sound clueless, I haven’t heard anything about how hard it is to get in.
@musicalmatrices I figure it’s probably not easy to get into because it’s MIT xD I’m not sure how many applications they get, but I know fly-in programs are pretty popular at any school. @rolshan I’m actually not sure if it’s intended for minorities and first gen students, I didn’t see anything about it on the website, but found an article from last year where the Associate Director of Admissions and Director of the Diversity Team is quoted saying that “The WISE program ensures the doors of opportunity at MIT remain open for all students, particularly underrepresented students of color, first generation, and low income students."

Yikes… I made a huge mistake. I thought applications opened on July 17th. The application isn’t kicking me out right now now I’m going to submit it tonight, but I’m guessing its a no go for me?
@basquiat Interestingly enough, they sent me an email inviting me to apply to WISE (after I had already applied) saying that the application was due July 25th. So I think you’re okay!
What, applications were due on the 25th?? I sumbitted mine on the 17th, before June SAT scores were posted. I emailed them my scores as soon as I got them because the were WAY better. I really hope they take them… When do you think they’ll tell us if we got in?
I got my email about a half hour ago! I got in! So did my friend from WISTEM (the thing at HMC I mentioned in the OP)! I’m so excited. Is anyone else going?
Accepted. I’ve been looking all over for this thread. I’m surprised more people haven’t posted. I think last year there were 1700 applicants, and only 100 accepted.
Aw sorry guys. And @WouldYouAcceptMe I think they probably looked at applications somewhat holistically. If you see the ‘is getting into MIT based on luck?’ thread it explains it pretty well and I’d imagine it would apply to WISE applications too.
@midnightnerd which weekend are you going? Oct 2-4 for me.
