Thanks Chris, D got her WISE acceptance today but no info on the Honors or scholarship. Will be great if the Honors or WISE scholarships if any are awarded is in addition to the Provost. It will help our OOS expenses a bit.

I was wondering the same thing. My daughter is out of state and got 8k a year Provost Scholarship email this morning and a regular mail letter yesterday saying she was accepted to WISE (she was not accepted into Honors which was her first choice). I was wondering if there is a WISE scholarship on top of that. We too need a little bit more to make it affordable.

@Chris You mean they get mailed out Monday or we should receive them by Monday? I live right in East Setauket (literally 5 min away) and I didn’t get my letter yet, although a lot of my friends at my school did. Did Honors and WISE both go out at the same time, or was WISE sent out a bit ahead?

catd76, Congratulations. How did your daughter know she is selected only in WISE not in the Honors? I do not recall (during the application) that you only get selected for one or the other, though I do know that you get to choose only one or the other once selected for these programs. BTW my D got a $7K Provost and we are from Arizona. Where are you from?

Thanks Rani. From what I remember in the Common App, there was the option to apply to either program or both. She selected both. Then under that, it said that you can only be accepted into one and then it asked what your first choice would be. She chose Honors.

When she received her snail mail from Stony Brook on Monday, it said that they regretted to inform her that she was not accepted into the honors program but they were happy to inform her that she was accepted in the WISE Program. It also mentioned that she would receive a separate mailing from Dr. Matthew Whelan with her WISE Scholarship award (which I am hoping in in addition to the 8k Provost Scholarship she received already). So in her case, she found out her fate for both Honors and WISE in the same letter.

We are from Rhode Island. Good luck to your daughter, maybe she did get accepted into honors since her letter did not state what my daughter’s did. Maybe she will get into both and have to choose one or the other. Not sure how that works. What is her major?

Students can only be admitted to either HC or WISE, not both. Scholarship decisions are made by a separate committee, so they’re not connected at all. The student’s “first choice” plays into the decision, but ultimately, the decisions are made by the programs.

I’m now told final scholarship notification will be April 1, by the way. My bad on that. It’s University Scholars that will go out next week.

Chris

What is University Scholars?

Thanks Cat,Chris. My D plans on majoring in Bio med engg. Yes her letter did not inform us of her Honors non selection/rejection. Just that “happy to inform you of your selction in the WISE Program and Scholarship details will follow in conjunction with the WISE program”. So I am hopeful for some additional $$. My D’s first prefernce was also the Honors Program. I am sure the WISE program is also an exceptional one and Chris, I also had the same question about University Scholars.
Thanks.

Chris, Cat
This is what I found out about the University Scholars program. If a student is selected in HC or WISE then is she or he excluded from University Scholars program selection?

[Undergraduate Honors Programs](http://www.stonybrook.edu/ugadmissions/newhonors/index.shtml)

Thanks.

We are still waiting to see if there is any additional scholarship for being accepted to Wise. I called the Wise office this morning and the woman on the phone said that if someone already receives a scholarship from the college that is more than what Wise would give, you just get the highest of the two. This does not seem to be what it said in the letter my daughter received. The letter stated that she would be notified of the details her award in a separate letter from Dr. Matthew Whelan. So now I am not sure what to believe. Has anyone out there received separate scholarships such as Provosts and Wise? This really is the deciding factor of her attendance since she needs a little bit more money to make it affordable.

Has anyone gotten Wise Scholarships on top of Provosts?

I don’t believe there are separate wise scholarships…last year, you rec’d one letter that listed all your scholarships, such as valedictorian/salutatorian, provost or presidential, and or nat’l merit scholarship, the letter included all their specifics, etc. but no add’l scholarships for wise, univ scholar or HC.
