Congratulations on Miami and a happy son who knows what he wants and is getting it.

Thanks, alumother, for the good wishes. When we "dragged" him to the U of Oregon between sophomore and junior year, so he could start to learn how to visit a college, he really was not sure what he wanted - maybe to study business and sports medicine. All through junior year, whenever I would mention college, he would tell me to leave him alone - that he was just a junior and he wanted to concentrate on being in HS. But after various experiences during junior year (at a job and as a leader in his youth group) he began to refine what he wanted to do, and to get a sense of what kind of university experience he sought. That continued through senior year. But it wasn't until we visited Miami that he realized how much he does not want to go to school in a cold climate.

Thanks, 1ctm, for your good wishes. Your posts over on the Miami board certainly helped us this fall and winter!

Yup, Sybbie and Carolyn, I have thought of changing my name but I am not sure how to do it. The funny thing is that when I picked it, I figured we'd be done by Feb., since he applied EA to his top choices, but I figured no one would get Wish It Was February! I didn't realized that we'd still be waiting in April for that last scholarship notice, and that we'd be waiting even after the RD decisions came in. But it was worth the wait!

Achat, I just love to hear the stories of kids who picked Miami over other places. I remember when Wash U was trolling for students - when my D picked Grinnell in 1998, a friend of hers, to our astonishment, picked Wash U over Swarthmore. I have a feeling that 6-8 years from now, Miami just might be in that category of schools that turned around and are in demand. Go Canes!

So it sounds like you walked that tricky line between too much pushing and not enough involvement perfectly. Even more congratulations.

Congrats to you and your son, April. I have been seeing an increasing number of kids, top students seriously considering and picking Miami, Tulane and Vanderbilt. They are rapidly joining the ranks of Emory and Wash U. I am not as familiar with the particulars of these schools, but I am quite impressed with the brain pool they are attracting.

Wow, my very best to your son, and I'm so happy for you that it's now April and you know where he will be next year!! Congrats!!!
