My S got accepted to JHU, Georgetown, ND, WashU, and Rice. He does not know what he wants to study, his interest ranges from premed, to Government, to dentestry. Which of these schools is more known nationaly for grad schools admission, or the job market?

Johns Hopkins IMHO is the best known.-- followed by Notre Dame/G'town, Wash U and Rice

All great schools, congrats to your son

I would personally choose Rice, mostly because it's a much smaller school than the others (and cheaper). It has a House system sort of like Yale's that nice for new students. Rice has a nice blend of sciences and humanities. JHU does too, but it's a lot more competitive, IMO.

My S was leaning towards Rice for the same reasons that warblers mentioned, but we live on the east coast and Rice is so far away, flying every time he visits, that makes it equivalent in price to the others, and we were told that it does not have a national reputation it is only well known in the south.

JHU, Georgetown, ND, WashU, and Rice. Firstoff, this is a very close group of schools.

I'd avoid JHU just because of the cutthroat environment and the lack of cohesiveness among the student body. I'd personally also skip ND, which is a little too one-dimensional.

That leaves Rice, WashU, and Gtown. I'd personally pick Rice for the qualities Warblers mentioned, but the other two would be close behind. I think visiting all three for visitation days is the best bet.

I agree with slipper and warble. Rice.

All of those schools are about equal. Hopkins is probably the most prestigious on the list, and Notre Dame would be "better known" due to sports.

If I had the choice I would pick Georgetown. I think it has a more vibrant social scene, great academics, and less cut throat than Hopkins.

I'd go with Georgetown, especially if there is an interest in government. I think Georgetown is the most well-known on the list for academics, and Notre Dame probably the most well-known because of its athletics.

I'd probably pick between Rice and Gtown, but only after visiting both.

4 years in Houston vs. 4 years in DC. That's a toughie.

I'd go with Georgetown, then ND. Rice is a great school but here in NJ most people don't know about it
