With a 2.8 GPA...is there any chance I can get into American University or a UC?

I'm a 3rd year CC student in California that really wants to head off to D.C. to study political science at AU. However, my academic record hasn't been the greatest. My first semester of CC, I failed an economics class (but retook it and passed) and last semester, I failed math (due to illness, I couldn't attend class). Other than that, my grades are decent -- mostly A's and B's with some C's, but I have aced every single one of my major classes. I hope to get my grades up this year, but even so, I don't think I can get it to go any higher than a 3.0-3.2 by the end of the year.

I had good grades in high school (3.8 gpa) and am active in my extra-curricular activities (Student Trustee at my college, ASB President in high school, intern for local politician, works 30 hours a week) if that helps some.

So realistically, what are my chances of getting into AU? I'm also looking into a couple UC's, like UCI and UCSB. Also, any recommendations for schools (anywhere) that have decent PS programs that I can transfer to with my GPA? thanks!

I would stay in state and transfer into one of the UC’s or maybe CSU’s. I believe you can get into any of the CSU and UC’s with the exception of UCSD, UCB, and UCD

i have a 3.58 GPA and applied as a Junior transfer from a university in oklahoma. I’m a accounting major. what are my chances?
