Hello, I’m a junior and I have a C 73.8% in precalculas. I’m taking AP English: B unweighted, AP US history: A unweighted, AP Psychology A unweighted, Chemistry A-, and Japanese 3: A-. These are my grades for first semester Junior year, I thinks its about a 3.9 gpa. I’m stressing out about that C, and my counselor told me to drop out so it doesn’t ruin my gpa second semester and finish the class up during summer(I feel like I can do a lot better then with no ap classes to divide my attention), so I have a lot of trust in myself second semester; I should get all As. My sophomore grades were: AP World, Biology, PE, Jap 2, Algebra 2, and Honors English, first sem I got a 4.0, second sem 3.67 I never wished to go to the top top Universities, but I do want to get into Ucs like Uc Davis, Irvine, USC. With these grades, do you think I can make it into these universities? Or are these university too high for me to reach. My plan is to finish first semester with the C and then basically finish up pre calculas 2nd semester during Summer, basically retaking it(but more like finishing the class and I have confidence in myself I will end with an A or B in the summer class.) I really am stressed about that C??? What good UCs could i at least get in??
@Tsunade123 As long as you don’t mind the third-tier UCs (still very good schools, Merced, Riverside, & Santa Cruz) you should get into one. Even with that GPA, I’m sure you can get into Davis, Irvine, and the others. UCLA and Cal will be reaches.
As for USC, you need to rock those personal statements, interviews, and recommendations. They are a completely different story than the UCs as it is after all a private.
As long as it doesn’t drop any further, you should be okay. But instead, you should focus on really mastering the concepts so you can do well the rest of the term and maybe pull your grade up to a B (which would look much better).
Btw, it’s spelled “calculus.”
At the end of your Junior year, calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
If your UC GPA is around 4.0+ and SAT around 1900+/ACT 28+, you stand a chance at the Mid-tier UC’s. Much will depend upon your intended major.
If your UC GPA is below 4.0, then you should consider UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside and Merced as good match schools. USC uses 9-11th grades so if you have around a 3.8 unweighted GPA and 2000+ SAT or 30+ ACT then you have a decent chance.
Thank you! Do you by chance know what those Mid-tier UC’s I can get into with those grades, I dont want to attend the third teir UCs like Merced neither the top Ucs like Berkely or anything like that. The ones that have good reputation like Davis, which isn’t easy at all but no impossibly hard. I don’t want to exactly say what my gpa is but I calculated what I think I would have by the end of my Junior year and got a 3.925 Gpa Weighted(with pe). Also, do they even count Pe in the gpas?
UC GPA’s are based on the a-g course requirements, so PE is not included. Use the Roger Hub calculator I posted.
If you unsure what the a-g course requirements are for the UC’s, here is a link: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/
You can also look at the UC Freshman profile for each campus with these links: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/davis/freshman-profile/index.html

Aim for at or above the averages for the best chances.
If you are aiming for those types of schools, then one C shouldn’t ruin it for you. Just don’t get any more.
Thank you everyone!
