with all of these acceptances CHANCE ME!

Uh, how did you manage to get into Uganda? I tried, and the paperwork/legal procedures were ridiculous. I’m going to call BS on this.

My advice to this student would be to get a regular job this summer and relax. Obviously you are doing great in high school and have much to offer the world. Keep up the good work and remember that advice is different from advise. Sorry can’t help the petty spelling correction.

I read it the same way HYPSMhopeful read it. Not that he/she built the school for three years, but rather was a member of the club for three years. This club was involved with building a school in Uganda.

How addicted am I to CC if I get a bit excited every time someone agrees with me?

Yeah, I doubt the OP actually went to Uganda (logistics are too strenuous, especially for a group of high school students with little money). I’m sure that they raised money for a school to be built, or volunteered at a charity event to raise money to build a school in Uganda, or TRIED to find volunteers for a charity event to raise money to build a school in Uganda.

@HYPSMHopeful -

 1. Very sad
 2. Do you know where you’re going yet?

No, I’m class of '11 like you guys.

I DID NOT GO TO UGANDA

THERE WERE NO SLAVES

HYPMSHOPEFUL was right, i was in a club for three years we raised money and built a school, it was 70,000 dollars to build a school (believe or not the dollar still goes a long way in Africa.)

Well then you lied on your resume. If you say “built a school in Uganda” when you were supposed to say “member of a club that built a school for Uganda” you take credit for all the work of your club members as if they did not exist. Do not lie on the resume, or you’re a cheater.

seriously? dude, calm down, im not a cheater, i was the president of the club

^That was vulgar, obscene, and unecessary. Please don’t come back to CC if you are going to make posts like that…

Wow… I never realized people were so mean on here. Personally dv, i think you’ve got a great chance. Keep doing what you’re doing and use your essays and interviews to make the edge. If you have time, then maybe an internship with a not for profit–but you’re already in great shape.

And for goodness sakes… I realize that plenty of people on here are likely to be good and stressed out students, but if someone asks for advice then you can at least show some decency… ideally, character is supposed to play a role in getting in too…

thank you ^ i think i know who are worse than ■■■■■■, people that condemn everyone for being one, your like hunting people down insulting them, interpreting too far, just go away, dont comment unless you have advice geez,

I don’t want to take sides, but if you read the whole thread, greatthenate, you would arrive at the conclusion that character is most likely not one of dvbanks’ strong suits.

I agree, if you need to lie about what your club did in Uganda, then you clearly do not possess character. You should be proud of your achievements regardless of exactly how much you did. “Building a school in Uganda” is much different from “being the president of a club that raised $70,000 for the school in Uganda.” Don’t inflate your achievements.

Just because you were the president of the club does not mean you BUILT the school, singlehandedly. In fact, being the president means very little (and I’m the president of many clubs).

Okay listen, I understand that you probably just didn’t communicate what you did in your club very well because I mean, come on, it’s just a post on CC, you’re not proof reading or anything. You didn’t horrify me until you made such disgusting posts that directly attacked people. It was very hypocritical to condemn the “■■■■■■” when you say such obnoxious things. And I did try to give you advice as you may have noticed in my earlier posts, but what you said crossed the line and was totally unnecessary.

To a certain extent, I concur. However, mentally, I feel like the OP WANTED us to think that he built a school in Uganda. I doubt that he/she would have come out about the validity of that statement if he had not been attacked. Saying you “built a school in Uganda” is quite a slip, if the truth was that he/she was simply in a club. I mean, it’s kind of hard to unintentionally give off those connotations.

That is true I guess. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the OP didn’t really start making me furious until he made his gross post.

Oh, yeah agreed. There was absolutely not justification in attacking the people who called him/her a ■■■■■ or a liar. Mostly because it’s our natural inclination to call liars ■■■■■■. And while the OP was not outright lying, there was an intent to mislead. And then telling ForHarvard to “take a stick out of his/her anus” was uncalled for.
