all right. i have mediocre stats at best. a 3.9 W gpa, and a 1940 sat score. if i'm applying to my reach schools, is it a good idea to get an interview with them and explain why i'm average?

It's always a good idea to interview. I'm going to interview with every school that offers one within driving range.

If you're a good verbal communicator ;)

I think an interview shows a lot more interest, that you're not just applying there "to see" or "because you can." Knowing that you took time to drive to campus or set up an off-campus interview probably helps the admissions people look more favorably on you.

I think interviewing helped my son get into 2 colleges with his "below-average" stats. But I hope he didn't mention his stats in the interview. If you interview, concentrate on your strong points. You want the interviewer to remember your positive characteristics when he or she is staring at a pile of applications.
