No. If they reject you it won’t be because of your mid-year. Unless you’re borderline.

I disagree with Beretta. That’s going to hurt.

^Yeah, right. This isn’t junior year.

My college counselor said I probably got deferred ED from my top choice school because my first quarter grades were about a 3.4 while my high school GPA was a 3.75 so… I think midterm grades matter.

^Colleges don’t look at quarter grades. Only semester. The OP is fine, but his grades won’t help him at all if that’s what he’s asking.

The college I applied to (Williams) called my counselor and asked for my first quarter grades. Also, I’ve never really understood the whole “it can only help you, it can’t hurt you” philosophy… if you do badly first semester while comparable applicants do well first semester, isn’t that damaging?

^My counselor even refused to send my quarter grades to one of my EA schools, telling me “colleges don’t look at them” and “we don’t send them.” I go to a high school that sends many people to top schools, too. But I guess Williams is an exception.

You say you got deferred because of dropping quarter grades… You can also get deferred if your grades sucked before and your current quarter grades went up. Either case, they want to see semester before making a decision. Because people DO change, right?

<if you=“” do=“” badly=“” first=“” semester=“” while=“” comparable=“” applicants=“” well=“” semester,=“” isn’t=“” that=“” damaging?=“”> Yes, of course, but the OP didn’t do THAT bad. I assume he applied RD so it won’t help him.</if>

dont worry I had all A’s and I dropped Calc AB AP to a 85 and Eco to an 86. its okay youre taking Calc BC so it already looks good.

My class ranking dropped from a 1 to a 37 but my counselor explained everything haha so it was all good but i dont think mid year really counts THAT much because think about it. Decisions come out on April 1st but some school’s mid year reports are coming out like now so they probably have looked at ur app. I mean they cant just wait until March or something to look at ur app. So yeah dont worry!
