With other acceptances, should I consider Vandy?

the joker, you're taking a beating for you post and I really feel sorry for you. The truth is, my situation is not muchh different from yours and I have the same qualms. You will being to notice (if not already) that the school spirit is immense at Vandy and they are very protective of their school.
Let us know what you decide. pm/im me if you would like

i didn't mean to come off as a snob. After much consideration, I just felt like Vandy was not the right fight, for whatever reason. You guys were helpful nonetheless. For the record, I think I'm going to Notre Dame, which is actually really similar to Vandy. So continue with the labeling and judging of me if you want to. Vandy is a great school; hopefully I be able to reconsider it for grad school. For ug, it just didn't feel like the right fit.

btw, i really could care less what a bunch of random people on CC whom I will never meet, think about me. So don't feel sorry. People who want to be jerks will be jerks, nothing I can do about it besides apologizing for putting myself off as the root cause for their ignorance.

thejoker, likewise, though I'm not completely decided, I think I most likely will not attend vanderbilt. The work/play balance and big party and greek scenes may be for some, but I don't think it will be the best fit for me. I could be happy there--it just might take more effort.
Congrats on your decision!
Like I said, I think Vandy people are perhaps excessively proud of their school to the extent that they put down other schools and pick fights with any with anything bad to say about Vandy. In any case, i think as long as people tone down their rhetoric on this forum, the discussion will be a lot better.
cowboy, I'm glad you know all about preppy fashion. I think that is one of the very things thejoker is criticizing.

My favorite thing about this forum I discovered is how people think it in way represents your college experience. The people that post on here for the most part are the ones looking in from the outside trying to analyze and then talk about it instead of creating it. The most significant reason among others that I decided on Vanderbilt is its renown for having simply the best undergraduate experience among any of the top 30 or so schools. It is my absolute belief that decisions on what school to attend should be 90% based on a good visit to those schools, 9% on talking to family friends or personal friends that know of or attend those schools, and then 1% Internet, meaning rankings, forums, all that crap. You people are crazy.

That being said, I'm not sure whether I should die laughing, feel happy, or even feel maybe a little bit sad that someone made a decision knowingly or unknowingly not to attend a school because of what people on the Internet told him. I think I'll go with choice numero uno.

i've visited and it was very helpful, but sometimes it's hard to get past the show the admissions people put on for you during the tours, etc

Yes, the show admissions presents is usually quite informative but limited. I found it really helpful to walk around on my own visiting the dining halls, rec center, bookstore, student center, etc. If you visit while classes are in session you can get a really good feel for the campus and student body. Introducing yourself to some random students as a perspective freshman and asking them some questions is also informative. In doing so at various schools you can get a sense of the overall feel for comparison purposes.

Ding Ding Ding Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

I thought people only went on those tours to get a break from the real visit. Guess not.

i'm actually basing my decision on my visit. I just didn't feel at home for whatever reason.

Nothing wrong with not feeling at home. All things being equal ($$$) you should go to the school you feel most comfortable at.
