The only way I'll be able to go to FSU is if I get a dorm my freshman year because I am out of state. With priority number 3457 will I be able to get a dorm room?

I’ve been deferred so I don’t have a priority number yet, but after reading many of the threads on here, it sounds like you definetly will get a dorm. I’ve seen people ask questions if they’ll get a dorm with a 5,000 something priority number and all of the repliers were senior members and seemed really informed, and they said yes.

Good luck!

Yes you will get a dorm with that number.

thanks! i had priority number 259 or something and forgot to pay and it expired…now i have 3457 haha

Aw, really? That sucks! lol Oh well, at least you have a decent priority number, I haven’t even been accepted yet. -.-

Does anybody know if I would get one of my choices?

My brother had a priority number in the 2000s two years ago and got his last choice. But I think it also depends on which dorms you wanted. I talked with the student tour guides at preview yesterday and they both said that Wildwood goes the quickest just because it’s the newest one. But if you put some of the less popular dorms as your top choices then you might have a chance. :)

hsmloverrx, did you hear anything else about the dorms? I live overseas and have no idea what to do about dorm choice!

torioreo you can look at the dorms online and choose which one is best for you.

They said they have up to like 6000 dorms or a little bit more than that. You may not get the dorm you want but you will get a dorm

how do you get a number? I just got accepted to FSU. Is there a housing app I should’ve filled out? lol

Oh, wow.

You need to go to housing.fsu.edu and fill out the app ASAP!

Well, my brother lived in degraff so I went there a couple of times and it was REALLY nice. It’s the same layout as wildwood, it was just built a year or two earlier so everyone thinks that wildwood is “better” haha. The students that I talked to said that it is nice, but the location is terrible. I also went inside of Kellum, and I didn’t think it was all that bad, except the rooms were tiny. But even then, when I was walking in the halls with the student tour guide, a bunch of the other students were all hanging out and saying hey to her and even to me and they were all really friendly and I could see how social it was. I didn’t go into Smith because I was told that it was basically the same as Kellum. Next, we went into Salley. I really liked the lounge area because it seemed pretty big and open and everyone was just hanging out in there. But apparently it’s not connected to the actual dorms? I mean, it might be somewhere, but the student took us outside to get to her dorm in another part of the building. I really didn’t like it because it just looked like a dungeon. It was really dark and the halls were pretty narrow. In the actual dorms, there was a nice space where they had their desks and computers and whatever else they wanted in there. Then there were two smaller rooms, each housing two students. They seemed to be about the same size as one room at Kellum. Then they had a bathroom that the 4 students shared. It seemed more like having 2 roomates than just one. Idk, I just didn’t like it all that much. Salley is the only dorm that’s like that. I then went to visit Reynolds. It was REALLY nice, I’m not going to lie. There was a really cool study area that connected Bryan and Reynolds with lots of windows to look out at the campus. The room we went into was HUGE. The girl told us though that she got the biggest room, but I mean still. It can’t be that much bigger than everyone elses. =) She also told me that it’s not as social and the people there are more into studying and hanging out instead of partying, which I really liked. You also have to fill out a “wellness” agreement, which you agree not to do any drugs or smoke or drink your freshman year at school. There wasn’t anybody to show us around Bryan, but they did tell us that they were basically the same. However, Bryan was a living-learning community just for freshman in general. You have to apply online and the only thing about Bryan is that you have to take one of your liberal arts classes in the actual dorm. The last one I went to was Deviney, and it really wasn’t all that bad. We went into a vacant dorm so it was harder to tell how big the room would be with two beds and a bunch of other stuff everywhere haha. But it seemed to be pretty clean and nice. We weren’t allowed in the lounge or the rec room area because they were waxing the floors. =( oh well, haha. We didn’t go into Dorman because we were told they were just like each other again. Those are the only ones I went into because I know there’s no chance I’d get into Broward or Gilchrist with a priority number like mine, and I didn’t want to torture myself. But I really hope this helped! If you have the opportunity, I would definetly recommend going to the preview. It was GREAT. The students were so kind and so helpful and knowledgeable. Definetly worth it.

Ahh, thanks so much! You have no idea how much that helps–their website doesn’t have the detailed info on it like you just gave me! I’m sad about my priority number, it’s like 5129 or something >.< What’s yours? I’m thinking about giving Reynolds a try…I’m thinking that most of the freshman will want to party and not dorm in Reynolds, but I don’t know with my priority number…:(

I wish I could go to preview, but I live so far away! but thanks so much for all of that information!! :)

Not a problem! I’m really glad I could help you! =) My priority number is 5176 haha. But yeah, I’m thinking of applying to Reynolds too. I definetly think we have a better chance because a lot of people don’t want to make that commitment, but I don’t do drugs anyway, so why not get a good dorm out of it? lol. Preview was really good, but it’s not the end of the world if you can’t make it. =) You’re very welcome!

Awesome, maybe I’ll see you there! =D

my choices are: wildwood, degraff, broward, reynolds
does anybody recommend any changes considering my priority number? thanks for the help!

Don’t forget to fill out the Wellness Agreement for Reynolds! ;)

I already did haha. thanks for reminding me though
I was thinking maybe I shouldn’t put wildwood as my first choice because there is like no choice i will get it. any recommendations?

Yeah, me too, but your number is like 2000 higher than mine, so I would leave it up. Wildwood houses 700, and so does Degraff, so you might get into either…cuz that’s already 1400 students, plus some of the priority numbers above you are expired; many people probably didn’t pay or (if under 18) get their agreements signed and sent in on time. I’d say leave it up, Wildwood and Degraff house the most students, so why not? :)

Yeah you made some good points that I didn’t think about.
