Withdraw from 4-year >> CC >> Another 4-year

Hi. I will try to keep this post as brief as possible.

Here’s my story: I am a freshman enrolled at UConn, and it is currently the second semester. I achieved a 3.65 GPA last term in my classes, which I am very happy about, and I think I can pull off a 3.5 - 3.8 this semester, too.

Anyways, I really, really DO NOT like it here. I do not have a car first of all, but some of my friends do. The town is so isolated and boring, unlike my hometown, which is right next to NYC. It was a really hard transition to go from an urban setting to a completely rural setting. I have friends here, but many of them have the intent of transferring as well (they have realized how crappy it is too). It’s so crappy that the thought of staying for any longer makes me feel so depressed… I was willing to stay because I thought another semester would change things, but the cold weather only makes this school more depressing!

So my question is, should I transfer to a community college near my hometown for my sophomore year, and then just apply to another four-year university after that one year (for my junior and senior years)? I am pretty set on a specific major, which UConn also does not have a great program for.

Also, one of my other reasons for spending a year at a community college/home is the cost of UConn. It costs me about $28K a year here. A community college would cost me well under $10K.

Thanks for the help!

Any comments?

… Anyone??

I think that the reason that you’ve not gotten much response is that you’ve essentially answered your own question.

Yes, it does make sense to transfer out of your current school>attend your community college for sophomore year>apply to another 4-year school for junior and senior year.
It seems like a cost-effective solution and one that will get you to a school that has more depth in the major you’re targeting.

Good luck!

^This. Applying to another school for junior and senior year is not unheard of.
