Withdraw Passing on transcript - what effect will this have?

I am a junior and I currently have a B- average in my Honors Precalculus class. I work very hard in this class, yet cannot seem to get the grades I want. I wanted to drop down to Level 1 earlier in the school year, but my guidance counselor and math teacher persuaded me out of it and I REALLY regret it. I asked if I could switch down before midterms, but my guidance counselor told me I would have to wait until after midterms, which is now! Should I drop to Level one?? If I drop, it will show up as Honors Precalc WP (withdraw passing) on my transcript and then it will have my grade in Level 1. If I don't withdraw, I will probably end up with a B- for the year. My question is: what looks better?? I can probably get an A in level one.

ALSO: switching to level one involves changing my whole schedule around, but keeping the same teachers for the most part. I would end up switching my honors physics teacher, which would also work to my advantage because the other physics teacher is easier..so I would still stay in honors physics and get a better grade.

What do you think? Which one is better?

Don’t drop it. Stay in there and try to pull off a B- for the year. Sophomore year I had this crazy ***** of a spanish teacher, we hated each other and my grade reflected it. I wanted to withdraw because I was getting a B- but my guidance counselor told me to stick with it, get a B- for the year, and I wouldn’t be hurt as much as a WP on my transcript–afterall, a WP can mean you were one point above failing and or thought the course was too difficult, NOT what you want the colleges to think. One outlier grade will not hurt you. I got into Stanford with that blemish on my transcript, they forgave the grade and I think my guidance counselor talked about it in his rec. Stick with it.

What if I don’t have A’s in all of my other courses, though? I mean, I am taking a very tough course load and managed to get the harder teachers in all of the subjects, but still…colleges don’t know that, so I have to do well no matter what. I’m just worried that this B- will have an extreme impact on my GPA, along with my B in honors physics. Thoughts?

Calm down man. Colleges no more than they give you credit for. B’s in honors classes are better then A’s in standard classes. Remember that. I’m not saying don’t try to get A’s but if you end up with a B then its still ok. Don’t let people on this site intimidate you with them threatening to commit suicide over a B+. Also it I’m not judging but from what classes you have said so far, your’e not an Ivy league prospect (nothing wrong with that) which means a 4.0 isn’t a cutoff or they blow past your application.

Everything will be fine. Stay in it. The GPA impact will not be that great, especially overall. See if you can do better this semester.
