<p>Hi!
I am currently taking an abstract math that doesn't not exist in any other university other than mine. I'm planning on transferring to a bigger school with a better undergrad math program. This class is extremely hard and time consuming..it is a prereq for upper level classes at my current university but there's no equivalency to the universities I'm applying to (waste of time?). Regardless, I am 100% sure I'll go somewhere else by next year.</p>
<p>The Pros of this class:
*It may help with a few future upper level classes
*It won't be considered in my application until I get accepted and send in final transcript</p>
<p>Cons:
*I'll have 12 credit hours if I withdrawal (I don't have to worry about hours required to be in the next year)
*I will most likely get a crappy grade (even though I go to professor for help regularly)
*Extremely time consuming and draining </p>
<p>Should I withdraw?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

<p>If you feel it’s going to help you in the long run then you should continue to take the class especially if you don’t have to worry about credit hours when transferring. You should ask your professor where you are in the class as far as grades and see if there are improvements to be made.</p>
<p>I don’t think that’s an option for this class and the time period to change/add/drop classes is over. And I feel like sometimes this class cuts a lot of my study time for other classes. Maybe I’m just lazy?</p>
<p>Are you sure it’s not just a bridge to higher mathematics course? I see courses with that name all the time or some weird form of the name, but they all mean the same thing. </p>
<p>You might be leagues beyond me, but I took Linear Algebra with a hard professor which was entirely proof-based and generally abstract. The only tough part about it was feeling lazy about doing homework because it was so time consuming and draining. I did end up getting a C in the class (1 % short of a B). I basically micro-managed 3 of my other classes for this one class and somehow managed to pull A’s in the rest. The class consumed my life, but if you have friends in that class and work in groups, it makes it so much easier and funner to get through.</p>
<p>Depending on when you want to transfer, I would take the W (you should probably contact the school first though about it, don’t quote me on this), but you’ll probably see a course just like it elsewhere that you’ll have to take. It might just mean that they don’t think your course is on par with their course or they don’t offer it.</p>
<p>The schools I’m applying to have a equivalency website where you plug in your course number and such…and nothing came up…There is a class that seems similar (I did the reverse equivalency…this class doesn’t count/exist at my current university) to it but it says it is optional for one of the specific math majors I’m considering under their course lists. Most people in my class have taken linear algebra and differential equations before this class. I’m behind as I only just now decided I’m majoring in math.
I’ll just ask someone at that school.</p>
