This year I bit off more than I could chew and took 3 regular high school classes (Band 4 H, Yearbook 2, Economics), 1 AP class (Calculus AB), and 13 College hours (Chem I + Lab, English 1301, Fed. Government, Humanties).
My issue is that with ECs, work and class itself, I can’t do much of the coursework for Humanities and will make a low A/high B which would negatively affect my GPA.
I’ve sent in an Early Decision application to Columbia University and I was wondering if my admission chances would be harmed if I dropped Humanities.
Thank you.
PS : my course load doesn’t appear heavy but at my small high school that is as heavy as it gets.
You are taking a course actually called “humanities”? If you are a senior, then you GPA that counts for things like rank is long done with. Are you only worried about a B+ on a quarter making period? If it is putting other classes in jeopardy then I’ think it might make sense to drop it but only if that is the case. I can’t imagine a B+ or A- in one class will make or break entry to Columbia. I’m not an admissions counselor at Columbia so this is simply based on my judgement but can’t imagine a B+ or A- on a quarter marking period would be a big issue but it is if it puts your other classes in jeopardy. Are the 13 college hours actually at a college? What is humanities?
