Hi everyone! So I am a biology major and attending a community college as a freshman (on my 2nd semester). This semester has been really rough for me in my general biology class. I currently have a C in the class (76%). I really want to transfer to UCLA but I know if I get a C in my bio class as a bio major it wouldn’t look good at all. I have time left to raise up my grade to a B. (Until May and I still have a couple of lab quizzes/ homework and 4 exams left that include the lab final and cumulative lecture final) But my luck hasn’t really been there for me and whenever I get my grade up, something happens and I end up getting back to a C. What I’m afraid of is doing good on my test to where I’m at a borderline B but then my final bringing me back down to a C. What I want to do in the future is go to medical school and become a doctor. So As really matter to me. I’ve tried really hard in the class as well. I’ve spoken with the teacher during office hours, gathered a study group, watched many videos on YouTube and khan academy, read the textbook and done the extra concept questions as well as the study guides, but it seems like I can’t grasp onto it. I brought this up to my counselor and he was the one that suggested i should withdrawal and take some time to learn the material on my own time and then retake it when I’m ready (when I know I’ll get an A). But I feel like just having a W on my transcript is really bad. I’ve thought about contacting the UCLA counselors but I don’t want their first impression of me to be bad. I really need some extra advice on what to do. I feel so disappointed with myself and feel like it’s the end of the world for me right now which is absolutely ridiculous. Thank you for your time everyone and I am looking forward to your feedback
From what I’ve heard most colleges don’t look at a W on transcripts…however, if you end with a C or lower they will take that into account…this being said if you feel you would do better at another time then withdraw, and if you think you can bring your grade up this time then don’t withdraw
your chances of being in medical school may have gone down the drain with a C in general bio class.
