withdrawals

Hi I currently a student at a JC I am hoping to transfer into UCLA or UCB.
Heres my situation, I'm applying as a applied math major. I have a 3.9 gpa.
extracriculars: 1 quarter of being a math tutor
but i have 2 Ws on my transcript. both being in the same quarter(my first quarter of college) in chemistry and physics. But I retook those classes and got As. Will the Ws hurt my chances for admission? and if it does, is there anything I can do to make up for it( better grades, more extracrics etc..)

More extracurics never hurt, unless of course they get in the way of studying. In fact, they're probably the most important component of the CC transferring process if you already have the near-to-4.0 GPA. I would say join some clubs.

Here's why W's look especially bad on CC transcripts: they obviously indicate that you withdrew because of the heavy courseload, that is if you can't provide a complex and meaningful explanation. Did you take a heavier courseload the next semester?

If you keep your 3.9 gpa you will remain competitive. Keep your grades up with a hard course load this fall, maintain one hell of a gpa and youll be looking good... if you are living in California ur most likely set.

yes i did take the same exact course load but it was only 16 units though. Chem, phys, calc, but the calc was the only new class i took

W's are not that bad. Multiple College Confidential members have reported having more than 2 W's and were accepted to excellent top colleges. I had one W in Accounting (4 classes in my first semester, ended up finishing 3) and had no problem gaining admission into top schools. Don't fret over W's and be happy that you've gotten A's in the courses.

your fine....I have 3 W's & I got into Cal...just keep up you GPA & you'll be fine
