Withdrawing from a class 2nd semester

will I be rescinded from a transfer school if they see a w on my final transcript?

Nope! You are fine :) They may want an explanation. As long as the class was not a requirement for your major. Let's say you are a Biology major, and you dropped you main biology class. Then, there may be a problem, but if you have a legit excuse, then you are fine. Sometimes, I hear, they do not care. All depends on the strength of your grades, what class you dropped, how it relates to your major, in some cases why you dropped it (they don't want to hear because it was because you were getting a bad grade).

I am also withdrawing from a class. I fulfilled the requirement in h.s. and took the class. Why would I take a class that I don't need? So I dropped the sucker and can now focus on my other classes! It was a math class by the way, and I am a Religion major. So, it really depends on your situation. Hope that helped! If you need any more answers message me

haha well I'm trying to drop it to avoid a bad grade...If my other grades are fine would one C-ish type grade put me in trouble?

nevermind I came up with a reason, anyone else SURE (or not) that this won't effect me post-admission decision?

I dropped a course this semester, but will still finish my freshman year with 36 credits. It was a course not related to my major that probably would not have even transferred over. If a college admits you, I am fairly confident they will not rescind your admission based on one W.

I did the same thing - dropped a Calc II class that I didn't need for my major my second semester. I did something stupid afterward though, and actually noted it on the application. They wouldn't have known that I had even taken the class otherwise, but I did attach an explanation, so I should be ok. I also fulfilled the requirement in HS and took the class as a personal challenge. We should be ok.

I actually just called a bunch of schools and they were like "yeah you're probably getting rescinded"

No way. Are you serious?

yeah but Im an athlete so maybe I can get coaches to petition it. actually only one school told me that…

Which college told yoy they would rescind you acceptance based on a W? UNC-CH told me that a W would neither hurt nor help me

Claremont McKenna. they said they would only consider not doing it if I had a written “excuse” from the professor and a good enough explanation but they still might. Thats my top choice though…physics is literally ruining my life right now

Wow, I am now worried that if I were fortunate enough to get into Georgetown that the W on my final transcript would get my admission rescinded. How many transfers does CMC take though? Since Georgetown accepts roughly 300 transfers, I doubt that a W would knock anybody out. It may be the case that since CMC accepts so few, that a W really hurts.

like 30 I’m told. Oh well, I’ll just go somewhere that wants me then bc other than that I’m qualified so thats’s kind of rediculous

I applied to transfer to Georgetown as well with a W on my transcript from last year. Who knows what will happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I get rejected because of it.

I just went ahead and emailed all my schools and notified them that I withdrew from a class. I originally was planning on not telling any of the schools, but decided that the school could rescind my admissions decision if they saw my final transcript had a W on it and they were unaware. Figured it was the best call to notify the schools. Personally I think it would be a completely rediculous to reject a transfer applicant solely based on one W

hmm, I think I’ll wait until after…its like a surprise

I believe that it is only a problem if you drop a class, then ‘hide’ it until it shows up on your final transcript. At that point, the admissions office would want to know why you lied about a class in progress. That is what I heard from a transfer admissions coordinator at Illinois-Champlain. If you do drop, it is the safest bet to inform the schools

I did it after all of the deadlines, if they want to rescind me I guess I’ll just beg for academic probation instead

19, did you email or call them to notify them of a dropped class? I emailed them because i figured that a receptionist answering the phones wouldn’t be reliable with something as specific as withdrawing from a class. I plan on writing the adcoms a letter explaining why I dropped the course.

no i just asked if they would rescind based on a second semester W. I’m having the prof write a letter and I’ll write a letter to go with the final transcripts
