Would it be a bad decision to withdraw from a class (Calc 1) if the best grade I can possibly get is a C? This is my first semester at UF. Right now I'm trying to decide between taking a C or withdrawing and retaking it for a better grade. Also, how would it affect my financial aid?

It depends. If you retake it, will you get an A? Are you in danger of getting a D or an E? What are you trying to do after graduation?

It depends on what financial aid you have, and how many credits you have.

There is a danger of getting a D but it’s probable that I can finish with a C. I have enough financial aid to cover the cost, and I think I would be able to get an A if I retook it. Right now I’m taking 15 credits.

Pacmanzz, you are ignorant and your posts are not appreciated on this BB.

Pacmanzz… Here’s hoping the admissions committee at UF reads this forum, figures out who you are and incorporates character into their decisions. You should be denied the privilege of attending UF.

It shouldn’t be too hard for them to figure who Pacmanzz is… I don’t think there are many transfers from Tallahassee Community College that have their own tee-shirt selling companies and 3.81 GPAs… Speaking of not being able to get a passing grade, you really should think twice about what you write Pacmanzz, It’s not MuslimGator whose had to use credit forgiveness to inflate his GPA.

I’d applaud anyone who’d be willing to call admissions, I’d hate having to run into Pacmanzz at UF.

What is your planned major?

A “C” on your record is not the end of the world.

It is usually a good idea to meet with the prof in any class in which you are struggling. Profs are human, will try to help you understand the material better… and may well give you the benefit of any doubt when it comes to final grade time.

Hm… It’s a fickle subject. For some majors (such as pre-med/dental/pharm/health) they advise you not to drop a class unless you’re absolutely going to get a D/E in it because admission commitee’s will think that you were going to fail it. If you’re one of those, i’d just take the C and possibly retake the class later.

However if you’re not planning on pre-anything; i’m sure the general consensus is that having a C on your record for calc1 isnt that big of a detriment. However if you dont understand the material and are in a major that requires you to continue on to calc 2/3, then you may want to think about retaking it as well.

Also take into mind a C- is not a passing grade and i’m pretty sure you wont be granted your math requirement if you receive that grade.

oh and ALSO ALSO keep in mind that if you have bright futures, then you will be required to pay for the class out of pocket if you drop it.
