Withdrawing from a college as a first year student

I will need to withdraw from my current university because of some drastic unexpected financial situation with my family. The add/drop/swap is still going on so i will have a blank transcript with no classes/grades/credit. If i apply to a state school for spring 2010 semester, will i need to apply as a transfer or freshman? I have no college credit and have no classes listed on my transcript.

It depends on the school you’re applying to. On one extreme, GWU considers students a transfer if they complete 1 college course post HS. Others will consider you a freshman as long as you don’t complete a year of college. You need to look at the websites of the schools you’re interested in and see how they define fr and transfer students.

You should pick up the phone, and call the state school that you will be applying to. They have dealt with applicants like you before, and will be able to advise you.

Wishing you all the best.

bump

yeah i’ll call the schools on monday. in the mean time, anyone got any opinions or thoughts?

Here is what they say at UC schools

Since you have enrolled, even if you withdraw without taking a class you’d need to contact them to see what the rules are.
