I posted this in the transfer students thread, but I just want more opinions here.

I will need to withdraw from my current university because of some drastic unexpected financial situation with my family. The add/drop/swap is still going on so i will have a blank transcript with no classes/grades/credit. If i apply to a state school for spring 2010 semester, will i need to apply as a transfer or freshman? I have no college credit and have no classes listed on my transcript.

I’m pretty sure you’d be a freshman but I would call to confirm. The typical definition is, “A student who has completed at least 1 college course after graduating from high school.”

I’m so sorry you have to do this. I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do suggest you go speak to someone at your college (dean? financial aid office?) about your situation. I hope you are able to find a solution.

My local public university requires application as a transfer if one has taken 12 hours of college courses after high school, but each university has its own policies. It’s unlikely, however, that you’d need to apply as a transfer.
