Hi
I am suffering ridiculously from BC Calc right now and I'm a Senior. I've read several posts about Juniors dropping down to AB from BC, but that's not that big of a deal because a Junior taking Calc is already a head of the crowd.

My question is, will it look horrible if I drop down to AB now? I'm already almost halfway through my 2nd quarter at my school and my transipt is definitely going to say "withdrawn" from BC. I got a C 1st term and I've never gotten a C in any of my math classes and this is basically the class that's killing my GPA.

What should I do?

A little more info about my school: All math teachers are terrible
My current BC teacher is teaching BC for the first time and has no idea what he is doing - usually is corrected by students (I mean really, what better class could I have taken when I’m not a genius)
The AB teacher isn’t any better either - I dont know how long she’s been teaching but she apparently can’t teach calculus either, so either way it looks like I’m going to have to learn on my own.

Should I drop to AB? even though colleges will definitely see that I had taken BC before, and an ugly WD would be written on my transcript?

Also, another thing - I’m not 100% confident that I could ace AB…heh not the best outlook for me. But from what I’ve read in the CC posts, and from seeing how my friends are doing, it seems like I will at least not be suffering a C in AB.

I don’t know if this will help you, but if your textbook for Calc BC is authored by Stewart or larson there are solutions manuals to help you figure out the answers to the questions. PM me if you need them

At my school, the AP Calc teachers are bad too, but I taking Calc I in my local CC at the moment, and hoping to get into Calc II next semster

We’re given 2 textbooks:
one is called “Calculus: graphical, numerical, algebraic” and it’s by Finney, Demana, Waits, and Kennedy
the other one is called “Calculus of a single variable - 2nd Ed” by Finney + Thomas
so I guess we don’t have the same book as your school :(

I’ve talked to my teachers and they are urging me to transfer into Honors, nevermind calc AB.

That is a huge switch - from BC to Honors?
It wasn’t a thought I never considered, but that is honestly my last resort.

How would colleges look at me?
I’m applying to colleges like Tufts and University of Michigan.
I started off with Calculus BC, basically failed, and dropping down to Honors Calc in the middle of second quarter???
Are they going to think I’m this dumb person not knowing their own limits?
