Withdrawing from BC?

I am having serious personal and financial difficulties and cannot afford to pay my bill. Is it possible for me to withdraw from the school right now? I will only be a freshman in the fall.

Sure, just send them an e-mail.

But if it just a $$ issue, suggest you call and speak to a finaid counselor and explain your situation. Alternatively, if you your issues are such that you can’t attend college at all in September, ask if you can defer for a year…

Dear indistress : Please do follow the suggestion from bluebayou and at very worst request a one year deferral. If a serious life event has recently taken place, a deferral will take the immediate pressure away from the situation and allow clearer heads to prevail in a few month’s time. Also, do contact the financial aid office and explain the potential hardship. They will handle your situation with complete respect and care including offering some additional financial suggestions for you.

Best wishes and good luck - please do not withdraw as yet since Boston College will most certainly be willing to work with you, not against you.

would they honor a request to defer at this time? i thought that i would have had to request that by may 1.

Give 'em a call, indistress, and explain your situation.

Admissions folks everywhere, adn in particular those at BC can be extremely understanding; they realize that family emergencies/situations occur at all times of the year, not just in the April 1 - May 1 time frame.

If you need to defer for a year, ask if that is possible and how to officially request it. If your family has experience financial difficulties, speak to a FinAid officer and explain your situation and ask how you can apply to finaid at this late date. Or, if funds have been exhausted, ask if funds will be more plentiful next year if you defer.
