Withdrawing from college due to health issues

Hey everyone, this is my first post and I don’t even know if this is the correct place to find help or advice, but here I go:
I am currently a cuny student that is supposed to start classes at the end of this month, I have really serious complicated health issues that occur on and off and when they’re on, it keeps me from attending school because it is THAT much of a distraction. I’ve been sick recently and it takes weeks and sometimes months to fully recover. I messed up my first semester at my school so I opted to start over when classes start this month. The thing is, I don’t think I’ll be well enough to attend school, or at least consistently. My school only allows 3 days absence.
What Are my options? I really want to continue my education and this whole thing is eating away at me…

Tldr; I have serious health issues that keep me from attending school, already withdrew last semester to start over later this month, school only allows 3days absent. I want to know my options.

Community colleges are somewhat flexible, maybe an online college if you can work from home?

How would I do that if i have no grades fro my current school? Maybe its a stupid question, but i feel so stuck.

Are you a commuter? What do your parents say? Is the college aware of your health issues? Have you talked to a counselor where you are currently attending?

Yes, i am a commuter and my school is fairly far. My school isnt aware of my health issues yet and i havent spoken to a counselor. It is difficult to explain my health issues because even the doctors are literally scratching their heads trying to pinpoint what exactly is happening. Its a difficult time for me and i really want a future for myself

You could ask your college if you can defer for another semester.

That is a good idea but then again, this issue is on and off and tends to come on suddenly (for example, one day i’ll be fine, then the next day here i am again, too sick to go anywhere, extremely distracting symptoms)

I should also mention that my major is Marketing

And your parents?

They dont even know what to think of all this

I would suggest talking to your college counselor about your options. Also, I would suggest talking to your parents and seeing a therapist. It sounds to me like you need to take care of your physical and mental health first, maybe now is not the best time for school. But you are giving very limited information and no one on here can really guide you I don’t think! Talk to professionals in your circle, your counselor, therapist, doctors; in conjunction with coming up with a plan with your parents.

@mandycandy0123 Have you discussed with your parents taking a leave of absence to focus on your health? You said your medical issues take weeks and sometimes months to recover. You also said the doctor’s are scratching their heads. This leads me to believe that you have not yet received a diagnosis. Once doctors are able to determine what the issue is, maybe it won’t take weeks or months to recover and you will be able to manage your illness such that you will be able to return to school.

As you try to figure this out over the next few months both from a medical and educational aspect, look into schools that are closer to home and see if there are any options that may be closer for you. Good luck on finding out what the issues are.
