withdrawing from csu to attend a cc

hi i am pre nursing and currently in my first semester of my freshman year at SDSU and so far im not liking it. I have nothing bad to say about the school it is just does not feel right. i am really homesick coming from Los Angeles and was considering withdrawing after my first semester and attending a cc and possibly transferring after i get all my GE's and pre reqs done at the cc . I would like to get some feedback and guidance to what i should do and i also want to keep nursing as my intended major. thank you

Well the big issue I see here is financial aid. Check with the community college you wish to go to and see if they can give you financial aid even though you signed up for SDSU.
Also, classes. State universities have way more resources than cc’s. Check the previous semester’s classes schedule. Imagine your ideal class schedule based from that.

And just register super early. Classes get filled really quickly.

I did the exact same thing you are thinking of doing after fall 2009, so I know how you’re feeling. I took one quarter at UCSB and withdrew because I just didn’t feel like it was the right school for me. I went to a CC back home and am now transferring next year. I’m not going to tell you what to do because I had a hard time deciding whether or not to withdraw from UCSB. Sometimes I do regret leaving because I’m missing out on the full college experience, but I’m glad I went to a CC because I saved tons of money and I appreciate home, my family, etc. more now. In terms of what you should do now, I would look into CC’s that offer a nursing program or nursing courses so you could finish your GE’s + prereqs and then transfer to another university. Good luck on your decision!

thanks for the responses they were really helpful, i was also wondering that if i withdraw after one semester of sdsu and go to a cc will my credits from my first semester of SDSU transfer to the cc and then be able to be used toward transferring from the cc to the new university?
oh and will i have the same chances of transferring from the cc to another university even though i went to a CSU for one semester?

Your chances will be the same with or without previous CSU or any university term completed. Whether or not the new university accepts those units to transfer is up to them.
