Withdrawing MIT application?

So I applied to MIT early action, but was deferred. I was, however, accepted to Columbia early decision (binding). I emailed MIT to withdraw my application and this is what they emailed back to me (on January 14, 2010):

Hello NAME,

Thank you for your email. We will forward your request to the Records Office. Your MIT freshman application will be withdrawn, as per your request. We wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

MIT Office of Admissions

However, I am still able to log in to my MyMIT account. So is my application for sure withdrawn? How do I know? I don't want to get in trouble with Columbia for having pedning application at other schools.

MIT admissions is probably busy right now and adjusting your account isn’t a high priority. But as long as you keep a copy of your email to MIT and/or MIT’s email back to you, you can’t possibly get in trouble with Columbia.

How would you get in trouble for applying to two universities? =0

Early decision admits are usually required to withdraw all other applications, since they are bound to attend the ED school (with the possible exception of being financially unable to attend).

To the OP, you have done what was required.
