Withdrew from a Course

I am a student at Georgetown and withdrew from general chemistry as a freshman. I began as pre-med and completely changed my mind (I'm now a government major). How much will this "W" on my transcript affect my chances at law school?

Not much at all. I got into Columbia Law with like 4 W’s on my transcript, if that tells you anything. Just don’t get like 10 W’s, and you will be fine.

As long as your Ws don’t add up to a point that it looks like you are manipulating your GPA, you are fine.

When I was in college in the 1970’s, one guy I knew signed up for 7 courses every semester and dropped 3 on the drop date – the dropped courses were those that he thought he’d do the worst in (or were too much work) – all to get the highest GPA he could. Nice game. He ended up at Harvard B school. Don’t know if he is rich or happy now (or was well-educated, but I doubt it).
