Without Father.

Hi,

Let me explain my situation briefly.

Relationship between my father and me has gotten worse than ever and actually he keeps cursing at me and calling me a stupid and fool. Also, my father and mother got divorced a long time ago. What I want to do is to completely get away from my father and have a life without him even if it will be a hard one. I cannot stand this unreasonable curse and insults my father has been doing to me.

But my problem is that my mother probably could afford everything financially before I go to college, but after that, it's so clear that my mom will not be able to afford the college tuition. It's way too much money. So, I'm considering applying for need-based scholarship, and I'm pretty sure that there is good chance for me, except one fact, the father.

My main question is this. No matter how much money my father makes, if I could prove I'm not receiving any kind of financial support from my father, will it not matter when it comes to applying for need-based scholarship at college?

If anybody has had or seen similar cases, please reply.

Thanks,

P.S. Also, I'm already an adult, even though I'm still in high school

Which parent do you live with? That is the person whose financial information you need to use on the FAFSA. Some colleges and universities also require financial aid applicants to file the CSS Profile. Of those, some require the financial information from the non-custodial parent. Of those, some will take your individual situation into consideration and will waive the requirement for NCP information. This means that if you live with your mom, and you don’t want to ask your dad for his financial information, you can choose to apply only to colleges and universities that will not need his figures.
