WL-ers! Heard from Cornell yet???

i'm WL-ed by Cornell...and i was just wondering if they started calling up people yet. soooo have any of you been notified?

not yet :( getting anxious

They could've had a really high yield this year, but since it's only by mail that means they'd be getting all their acceptance/declined admission cards... today if they were sent in on May 1st. Patience.

Edit: There are also the slackers LIKE ME, who realized they should probably notify their other colleges of their intent to decline so they wouldn't be waiting for the envelope in the mail. Everyone but A&M... they didn't have a decline button.

Good luck though!

hey guys i actually have a financial aid appeal in at cornell, but even if they match my other school i probably wont be attending cornell, so they will get my reply card a little late. i know it isnt a lot of help but hey, every spot counts right!

gahh! i'm so nervous!!!
i heard that the amount of engineering applications in cornell DOUBLED from last year...wow i'm not expecting much...but i still have a bit of hope. haha

i have a question.
if they don't accept you from the WL, do they notify that you didnt get in or do you just assume you didnt get in by a certain date?

Columbia started calling students from their waitlist. I don't know why Cornell is taking so long.

I read on another thread that cornell sends you a letter in late june telling you that they didnt have a spot for you. so then you know not to think about getting off their waitlist anymore.

has anyone heard from the wait-list or is everyone still waiting like i am?? this is so frustrating, because i basically have already decided and am about to stick in my first month's payment on tuition at another school.....but im still waiting for cornell to send me anything, even somethin sayin i didnt get in off the wait-list

It sure is frustrating. Unfortunately, it does not look like Cornell will be using much of its waitlist this year... and it's already late in the month, they should have received all of their admission cards by now...
here is what I read on the MetaEzra site for class of 2012: " Additionally, Davis asserted that the admissions office admitted more students this year in an effort to accept fewer students from the waitlist. Last year, according to Davis, Cornell accepted over 100 students from the wait lit."

well good thing i got into the honors program at BC then, so i wont really be sacrificing that much in the way of my education....and just curious, anyone have stats on how much harder it is to get into college of arts and sciences as opposed to college of engineering? cause three kids in my school got into the cornell college of engineering and i have better stats than 2 out of those 3, but i applied to CAS at Cornell, so i figured it was the harder college to get into

it appears to be that only the SHA has gone to waiting list. there is a thread on the main forum about people who've been accepted off the w-l.

jwriter90 - CAS acceptance rate for 2008 was apparently 12.5%.

well everyone... my school just got off the phone with Cornell, and it does not look good. Fewer students accepted Cornell for Hotel Adm, which is why they have a few spots for waitlisters, but it is full for other colleges... which means that the only available spots will be if kids who said they would go to Cornell, suddenly get off the Duke waitlist for example and decide to go to Duke. Only those very few spots will become available to us, but they will come late... probably not before June... That is so ridiculous, so unbelievable, and so totally unfair. So now ... back to reality: I need to focus on housing for next year. where will you guys be studying engineering next year ? I will be at McGill. Is anyone else going there ?

Has anyone received the following email today? I just got it afternoon from Cornell Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Thank you for your continued interest in Cornell University. Since you have elected to remain on our waiting list, I am writing to provide you with an update.

As of today, we have made a limited number of offers of admission from the waiting list for our School of Hotel Administration. Although there is still a possibility that we may extend offers of admission for Cornell's other colleges and schools, we are not prepared to do so at this time. We should have another update for you during the week of May 26, or you may hear from us sooner if we are able to extend an offer of admission to you.

from:Freshman matriculation rates up across Ivy League - Resources

"the Cornell admissions office also saw a 1 percent increase in their yield with 47 percent of the 6,838 students admitted promising to attend. Last year, 46 percent of the 6,715 admitted pool chose to enroll at the Ithaca, N.Y., university.

Cornell admissions officials noted that they are still waiting to hear from a few students who were granted extensions due to financial aid decisions. However, they also said no further wait-list activity is expected as the number of students that decided to attend was higher than expected."

time to move on.

anxiouslyeager: You have to read the fine print; The article you quote above is 10 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's from JUNE 4, 1998.

chances are that Cornell will not be accepting any from the wait list this year, but a correction about the above post, if you look at the source the article was from 1998, and it talks about the class of 2002, not 2012. At first i thought maybe the class of 2002 was a typo, but i looked at the publication date and it is 1998, so the above post is inaccurate in what it says, although ultimately the sentiments are the same....Cornell is not accepting many if any from the wait list because of how competitive this year was

@jwriter90,

Do you know why? Since a lot of the top schools are going to the waitlist, there would inevitably be students from Cornell who would accept those offers. This would correspondingly open up spaces in Cornell, shouldn't it?

All information seems to lead to the fact that Cornell will have very, very limited spots open on their wait list. Yes, of course there will be a few accepted, but because of the volume of applicants this year, there were many people waitlisted, but at the same time many people have accepted Cornell's offer. I know at my school alone 3 students were accepted to Cornell and 2 out of those 3 are attending. I don't have any specific numbers at this time, but from emails recieved by Cornell and from what I've heard, the waitlist will be tough this year. That doesn't mean you should lose hope, but I just reccommend moving on to the school you've submitted your payment to, and set yourself up to be happy there. For me, I'll be at BC honors, and I'm more than happy to say that I will eventually graduate from Boston College with honors, despite Cornell being my top choice.

Are most of you WL-ers giving up?
