I'm not as educated or as rich as you guys are, but I'm no dumbass either. I want to go to an ivy league school but it seems as though it's almost impossble for a kid like me who comes from an underfunded and unmotivated highschool to succeed.

Fear not, If there is a will, there is a way.

A hope in the Unseen, Ron Suskind.

There definitely is a way. You don't have to come from a "well-funded and highly motivated high school" either. So long as you are personally motivated, and you have the stats to back it up, then you are in equal competition with everyone else, regardless of how much income you/your family has.

I think there was a poster last year on CC who got in as a transfer from community college.

Yale accepts all sorts of people from all sorts of high schools and all sorts of socioeconomic backgrounds. As long as you have made the most of the opportunities available to you, you have a shot at admission. Yale is doing outreach to high schools that do not typically send kids to Yale, so your high school might be an advantage. All other things being equal, I can see Yale wanting to choose you over an applicant from a traditional feeder school to spread the wealth.

I have a friend who transferred form a community college and got into every law school he applied to coming out of yale.

Yeah, but it it wasn't yale, and just the community college, they would have gotten almost nowhere.

Yeah, they would accept a com col kid. Still, you'd have to really prove yourself. I mean, they only accept 24 students out of 700 (i think). only mit and princeton accept less. (pton accepted 0, mit accepted 6/300)

I would suggest applying to Cornell or Brown instead because they have a significantly higher transfer acceptance rate.

Shoot for Yale! The worst adcoms can do is say no, and even then, you have nothing to lose.

I'm also wondering if ppl can transfer to Yale from CC. Can it be done with 1 year of CC? How do you <<really>> prove yourself (stats, essay, anything in particular)?</really>

I know someone who went froma city college to Harvard.

I also know a person who got into harvard from a local community college.

I never finished high school.

I went to a community college.

I/nor my family - have any money

It is overrated!

Shark bite, the reason Princeton accepted 0 is because Princeton does not accept transfers.

If you are extremely qualified, I think that a school like Yale, etc would definately like you... They see so many sheltered, over-achieving kids that it might be cool to see someone from a completely different background (as long as you really prove yourself academically.)
