WMP/Spring admit preview day?

Did anyone attend the Preview Day for WMP/Spring admission that was held yesterday, April 9th? What did you think? I thought it sounded great, but we are not willing to take out a loan to finance the entire experience. My D will attend starting in January for the Spring semester. Anyone else choosing this route to AU? (I was impressed with the faculty and of all our college visits, it was the most impressive and offers incredible opportunities in the District.)

Wow - No One? Is anyone going on the 16th?

Sorry. Had to get things at work caught up after our trip to D.C. last weekend for the WMP April 9th Preview Day. Our D and we were very impressed with the entire presentation. We appreciated the candid and enthusiastic demeanor of the student “ambassadors,” both when they were up presenting and when they were free to chat individually. A wide variety of young people in terms of major interest and approach to their schooling. All seemed to have warm regard for the program, Tenley campus, and the school in general. What impressed us most were the professors who exuded a real passion for their subject matter and working with young people–the Deans and Director too, for that matter. I really like the idea that these kids will work so closely with a few select adult mentors (professors). Just seemed like a potentially nurturing introduction to the world of undergraduate studies. And, of course, the internship and forays out into the city are both very exciting.

The no help from Financial Aid is a big horse fly bite in the small of the back, but we decided right there to suck it up and go for it. We paid the down payment and called it a day. A few days later, still no “buyer’s remorse.” :)

Having said that, going the other route–waiting for Spring to join AU–will be fine. I know that people fret about assimilating into the student body mid-year, but people do it all the time, including transfers who come to a school after a year or two. Good luck to you and your D. Glad she chose American.

We also attended the program last Saturday. My husband and I were very impressed with the presentation and agreed with all of raider111’s comments about the WMP program. Our daughter was convinced she does not want to attend AU from the day, the DC and political focus of the school is not her cup of tea and she felt it was not a good fit for her. We are all very glad to have gotten a closer look. I wish I could have signed myself up for this program!

Thanks, Raider. I agree the presentation was a good one, and I was very impressed by the faculty for the WMP. They all seemed to have something great to offer the students.
Laris, I am glad the visit made things clear for your daughter, and hope that she will be very happy at her chosen school!
