I just registered, but I've been keeping track of the yale discussions for a while. Congrats to all of you who were accepted! Condolences for those who were rejected... Unfortunately for me, I was DEFERRED! (BAsically, I'm in college No Man's Land...) But, as you saw in admissions statistics, there were a LOT more deferred applicants than rejected. And, there were only like 740 acceptances.

Why do ya'll think that happened? Do you think most of the accepted were VIP/Alumni cases or athletes? That a lot of 2012 acceptances matriculated in our year? Or do you just think the high school class of 2009 is too hot to handle? Just askin' for opinions...

Also, do any of you have any idea how to strengthen a deferred application? The website basically said "leave us alone and don't ask questions"!

"Do you think most of the accepted were VIP/Alumni cases or athletes?"

I'm kinda proof that not everyone accepted was a special case. I'm just a lower middle class white kid from florida, with no discernible hooks at all (I don't really consider first generation a hook--it's pretty common). I just got lucky.

I think there were just whole ton of applicants this year, as we can see, many of them are overqualified in terms of grades and test scores, so you had to have something that made you stand out.

Just a personal opinion, but some of those who got in may feel bad about celebrating when everyone is so gloomy, and that's why we don't see so many of their posts

Well, it's also true that the class of 2009 is the largest graduating high school class ever., so you're bound to have a larger pool of talented applicants.
