WOC Orientation Trip?

We are very excited to have an incoming freshman. By this summer I expect to be inundated with communications from Williams regarding dates, plans, and instructions, but being complusive me, I naturally have to know everything NOW :-)

My daughter is looking forward to the WOC's freshman backpacking trip, that I believe happens during first days. I'm trying to book flights, and nothing shows on the web site calendar. Key pick-up is August 29th. Anyone know if the backpacking trip is before or after that date?

There is probably a better forum for this kind of question, but I'm a bit computer challenged. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place.

Is your daughter referring to WOOLF? My son absolutely loved it. This year he got chosen as a WOOLF leader and is looking forward to it.

WOOLF (Williams Outdoor Orientation for Life as a First-year) is one of the options for a mid-orientation program. It begins after the first few days of orientation and ends a day or two before classes start.

Yeah, it's a mid-orientation program, and it should be after the 29th. Last year, for our 2010 class, the orientation programs, including WOOLF, ran from Sep 2-5. So, no worries:)

Thanks everyone! Now I can go forth to book flights and hotel (and order order up several thousand boxes of tissues.)
WOOLF is going to be a great start. I know she will love it.

I didn't do WOOLF, but I know those who took part enjoyed it. More than half the freshman class signed up, I believe, and suddenly Frosh Quad and Mission Park became very quiet for four days. The WOOLFies had struck out for the forest. And I can only imagine how great the bonding time must have been for them.

Purplemom - "key pick up is Aug. 29th" .... could you give us a Williams link for this information? thanks

Anyone want to be a real sweetheart and call Admission or the Dean's Office (Dave Johnson is the Dean for First Years) to get the exact dates for the general orientation, key pick up, and the mid-orientation trips and programs?
People keep asking these same questions and I don't see the answers.

If you could start a new thread under "Orientation Dates" we would all be the wiser. Thanks.

I'd do it but I'm on my way out and am sure to forget later.

P.S. Previews sounds as though it was a real hit even in the bad weather. WOOLF and the other orientation/bonding programs should be wonderful.

The WOOLF schedule they gave to prefrosh has this year's trips leaving on August 31st. They don't list a general date for the beginning of First Days, but extrapolating from the WOOLF dates and from last year's schedule, it would probably be around August 27th.

From the following link, the first day of classes will be Thursday, 9/6
<a href="http://www.williams.edu/Registrar/calendars/07-08.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.williams.edu/Registrar/calendars/07-08.html</a></p>

Assuming that the relative timing is the same this year as it was last August (<a href="http://www.williams.edu/dean/pdffile/First%20Days%202006.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.williams.edu/dean/pdffile/First%20Days%202006.pdf</a>) then First Days will start with arrival and key pickup on Tuesday, 8/28. WOOLF trips will begin on Saturday, 9/1.

If I remember correctly, all that information should be in the first packet of information to be sent in early June to matriculating students. But as Grace said, if someone wants to find out for sure before then, calling would be a good way to do it.
