Anyone have experience with Wofford in South Carolina?

Our s is a freshman at Wofford and the experience has been very, very good. As a parent, I couldn't be more pleased with his decision. We met with all his profs during family weekend and ' were surprised at how well they knew him and the details they had observed. We live in the midwest and had some concerns about integrating into a southern culture, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Although his views are quite liberal, he commented last fall that he was surprised to find that there was often some common ground that most people could find--a good thing, I believe. During the past few years Wofford seems to have made a strong effort to attract students from other areas of the country who bring different perspectives to the campus. We have found the leadership of the college, beginning with the president, to be quite impressive and focused on the student.

I have been particularly impressed with the response that we have received from every department that we have contacted--admissions, residence life, dining services, to name a few. Every single person has been surprisingly quick to answer emails or phone calls and has been most helpful and supportive as well as genuinely nice. When we drove away from the campus for the first time last fall, even aware of the distance that would separate us, I left feeling that s was really in an excellent place to begin his new life adventures.
Classes were a bit harder than he had expected and he had attended a rigorous prep school. However, he quickly learned that his professors were there if he needed advice or help and he is now doing very well.

Another feature that attracted him to Wofford was the Interim term that takes place in January and the opportunities to travel and study abroad.

I would certainly recommend exploring Wofford and I agree with the description that it is a "hidden gem".
